"Couldn't you even get the tree up?" she asks.$pThe orphans come in and, though they try to have a nice time, it is clear that the lack of Christmas decorations in the place is putting a damper on things. Melody looks very disappointed in you, too, though she's trying not to show it. You sure didn't earn any brownie points with her today, that's pretty clear. Oh, well. The kids have food and they have Melody to cheer them up, even if you didn't do much. The place is definitely an improvement over the way it was when Melody left and she smiles at you as the kids enter the hall. They've got lots of food, thanks to Melody, and thanks to you their party isn't devoid of all things Christmas, either.$pAs the party continues, Melody drifts over and says, "You're a great friend. Thanks."The hall actually looks quite Christmassy, really quite decent for a party. Melody is really pleased as she lets the kids into the building and the food and the companionship really seem to make it a great time for them. You've done a great job and Melody gives you a kiss on the cheek in thanks, "You've really come through for the kids."The hall actually looks fabulous, such a difference from when you walked in and, as the kids run and play, it is clear they are having such a good time in large part because of you. The whole place just seems much more like Christmas.$pAfter the kids have left, Melody moves close to you, "Merry Christmas," she says, then smiles, "Let's go out and celebrate this working so well. Awakened by your friend Melody way too early this morning, she pressed you into service 'for a good cause'. Before you knew it, somehow you had volunteered to help her arrange a Christmas Party for some local orphans. Not a big deal, you figured, and it'd make you look good with her - maybe if you do well here, she'll finally agree to go on a date with you. $pYour heart sank, though, when the two of you walked into the dingy hall that was supposed to be the location for the party - it had certainly seen better days. Even Melody looked dismayed for a moment, though she quickly swung into action, "Alright, you set this place up for a party and I'll be back at 1:00 with the kids and the food." She smiles that warming smile, "I know you can do it!" With that, she presses a large cardboard box into your hands and heads out the door. $pIt doesn't look good. This place looks awful, there's no decorations, there's no nothing - and since you are flat broke, you can't even go buy anything. You'll just have to make do with what you can find here.
